Rebecca Lau is the brains behind WhiteRunway.com.au which is a website dedicated to making bridesmaid dress shopping fun, fabulous and fashionable. Filled with dresses to fall in love with and wear over again this website is a must see for bridal parties, and the blog is filled with tips and hints for bridesmaids.
We have all heard horror stories about bridal parties gone wrong, or lived them, and White Runway hopes to help make this a special day for the bride by helping to educate bridesmaids a little about their roles.
Rebecca answered some questions for us about what you’ll find on the site, hope her answers are helpful!
What inspired you to create the White Runway website?
I kept hearing horror stories from friends complaining about their dowdy bridesmaid dresses which cost them a fortune that they would never wear again and I started thinking how fashion evolves so quickly yet bridesmaid dresses have remained the same for the past decade! I wanted to offer bridesmaids a new alternative, offering them stylish bridesmaid dresses that can be reworn and won’t cost a fortune. I wanted to turn the whole bridesmaid shopping experience into something that was exciting again.
How would you sum up the philosophy of White Runway?
White Runway is for the modern bride. We don’t believe in the concept of wearing a dress only once, particularly when it comes to bridesmaid dresses. We offer brides and bridesmaids stylish dresses that will be loved, cherished, worn again and that your best friends will thank you for. After all, what goes around comes around and it’s good to know that you’ll be safe when it comes to their big day!
Why do you centre your collection around bridesmaids?
I think there is a lack of choice out there for bridesmaids in an affordable price bracket. Brides and bridesmaids are now also becoming more savvy and opting for ‘off the rack’ styles these days.
There is a wide range of styles and colours available, how do you choose your designers?
The first thing we look at is Value. Our offerings are all great quality, great design and great value. The designers we select are all well known in their industry for producing evening gowns and formal dresses. We also source from designers who aren’t traditionally known for offering bridesmaid dresses but have styles that our bridesmaids would like.
Do you find it’s difficult to run an online store for an event this important because customers can’t come in and try dresses on?
The great thing is that customers can actually try the dresses on in the comfort of their own home! We can reach customers all across Australia so they don’t need to come to us. We always recommend for them to purchase the one size first so that they can receive it and try it on, show their friends and then if they decide they like it they can place the rest of their order. If the dress is not suitable, they can send it back to us for a refund.
What sort of policy do you have in case of ill fitting dresses or the colours not being quite right?
All the dresses on our website can be returned to us for a refund if they are not right, no hassles and their money refunded within 3 working days (excluding custom designs and cuts)
Is it possible to get dresses any larger than advertised on the site?
Yes! Majority of our dresses are offered in sizes 6-16 but we can also offer up to size 24 on some styles. If you can’t find it in your size, just ask as our designers will often work with us to provide our customers with special sizing requests.
What market are you hoping White Runway will appeal to?
The brides and bridesmaids who want more than just a strapless satin frock!
Budget can be quite a major factor in the bridesmaid dress decision, what budgets does White Runway cater to?
Our dresses range from $89 to $340 with the average dress costing $200.
White Runway isn’t just about the dress, I was looking around the site and discovered the blog. What made you decide to include the bridesmaids tips and how did you decide whose tips to include?
Yes! We’re trying to encourage more bridesmaids and brides to come forward with great tips and stories from their past weddings. Anyone who has ever been a bridesmaid can tell you it is a HUGE deal – it’s definitely more than just sitting around looking pretty for the day. There is a lot involved in being a bridesmaid and it can really make that special day for the bride if they have informed bridesmaids who know what they’re doing and can assist the bride. The blog was put together by some expert bridesmaids, brides with some tips from expert wedding blogger Ms Polka Dot who all understand the stresses involved in planning a wedding! Hopefully the blog will become a great resource for brides and bridesmaids to come!
What does being a woman mean to you?
