Gwen is a personal stylist who specialises in Mothers of the Bride or Groom. She is married and mother to four children. Two years ago her eldest daughter was married, so at 41, Gwen had first hand experience of the trials and tribulation of being a MOB.
“There is a delicate balance between not looking too frumpy or too much like a want-to-be bridesmaid” Gwen explains. “The trick is to looks stylish and classical, anything too modern will date and age you quickly”.

Here are Gwen’s Mother of the Bride/Groom Tips:
1. Buy a designer or one off outfit. There is nothing worse, as the MOB/G, to discover you are wearing the same outfit as one of the guests.
2.When choosing your outfit, please keep in mind you may never wear it again. If it is the stunning piece, (as it should be), it will be memorable. This means where ever you wear it afterwards people will recognise it.
3. Think about buying a ‘signature scent’ for the big day, a smell that makes you feel confident and positive. After the wedding this perfume will continue to remind you of the special day.
4. Consider buying two pairs of shoes, one for the church and maybe a lower more comfortable pair for the reception. You don’t want to miss out on the dancing due to sore, tired feet.
5. When choosing a handbag remember it must be large enough to fit a spare pair of stockings, a lipstick and a packet of tissues. (any crying you may think necessary should be done a few days before the wedding, however, in case of a nasty bout of hay-fever, tissues are a must!)
